Fast and Furious: The type of workout that has it all.

I’m a firm believer in old fashion cardio. Not only is it a must for cardiovascular health, but if you want to shed the weight you got to get moving. Running, biking, swimming-you know what I’m talking about.

But cardio isn’t enough if you want to get cut and stronger.  Recently I’ve begun to add a  HIIT style workout to my regular cardio routine. HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) last around 20 minutes and involves a series of moves that are plyometric, resistant and cardiovascular. In plain English, for a minute you’ll do burpees, the next walking leg lifts followed by sumo squats. It’s hardcore and totally effective. Want to give it a shot? Try the video below from Amanda Russell.

  1. Rants and raves of a 17 year-old struggling in life

    Reblogged this on My Blog.

    Did you try it? Feedbacks?

I’ve been doing the drills from the Nike Training app. But this vid is going into my arsenal. Once I’ve masted the HIIT I’m doing now, I’ll probably give it a go. I just posted it because it’s a good example.

  3. I’m definitely a fan of old-fashioned cardio but I agree with you that it’s difficult to get cut and stronger with only the basics. I think it is part of the reasoned I’ve plateaued in my progress. I just bought a Groupon for a HIIT boot camp. I’m hoping to start soon (though it doesn’t expire until July!)

Andrea from Andrea In Wonderland and I were just talking about using Living Social and Groupon to try new workouts. It’s such a good idea to try stuff. Like you, I’m a cardio girl. But just adding the short strength training sessions have helped. I try to do one HIIT workout like the one I posted once a week. I’ll do a strength training workout once during the weekend that targets the lower bod, and then on alternate weeks I do a short arm workout with super light weights. Honestly, I use light weights most of the time, because I gain muscle with little effort. Let me know how you like the HITT boot camp. I bet it will be fantastic!

God, I hate running, but do know that it’s a must to lose weight and stay fit. Need to try out something different for sure to keep my interest.

Maybe try a different type of cardio, like spin or something. My dad swears by the stair master that is like a stairway to nowhere. You know the one I’m talking about, right?

    • Don’t like running, ok but your goal is lose weight right not running?!
Start with walking, every time you got an occasion, maybe replace taking your car or transport and walk instead then how knows you’ll maybe decide soon instead ;)
